Mamilhlapinatapai

Some things are sacred. There are a few words in the world that simply cannot be translated. I have always been fascinated by these words and love that they are what they are and we cannot (try as we might) translate them. My favorite word of all: Mamilhlapinatapai.

I mean, is that a word or is that a word! Derived from Yaghan language of Tierra del Fuego (I have always wanted to visit just because of this word), it means “a look shared by two people, each wishing that the other will offer something that they both desire but are unwilling to suggest or offer themselves.”

Pretty fantastic. My hubby introduced me to this magnificent word when we first met, I’ve loved him ever since.

I spied these lovely words via Pinterest a few weeks back and just had to share- the artwork is so lovely.

I love these: I printed them out on photo paper and cut them out and don’t know what to do with them but felt like I had to have them around! My favorites are sobremesa, pochemuchka and komorebi. Thanks for sharing!
